Why oh why? Y, indeed ....by Sr. Monika

Human beings like to ask, “Why?” Why did that earthquake happen? Why does it rain so much in the Pacific Northwest? Why do people have to suffer? “Why?” can be a rather useless, unhelpful question. Many times it simply cannot be answered. Frustrating.

Now, “Y’s” are everywhere to be seen. Y’s are in trees, bushes and architecture. Once you start looking for them, you will see thousands of Y’s around you.

A Big Y

I read about Y’s in a book about drawing. The author’s point was that there are patterns everywhere in nature and in other structures. Have you noticed the spiral in the center of a sunflower? Have you taken a good look at the little primrose? The geometry with these blossoms is amazing. Of course, when you cut an apple or an orange the patterns are bold and vibrant. The trees and bushes in these photos are from the monastery grounds. All these patterns and more can be studied and put to paper within a drawing.

Y not?

How many Y’s can you see in this image? My advice: forget the “Why’s” of life. Discover and enjoy the Y’s...a much more contemplative pursuit.

Hi, Bonnie. I'm glad you like my take on the Y's. I have another friend who is also seeing Y's everywhere when she takes her dog for a walk! Peace and all blessing this holiday season.

I love this! I will be looking for the contemplative y’s with Sophia!
