Knocking at My Door: The Bible and Autumn ...by Sr. Paz

Fall colors

I cannot say what is my favorite season. I certainly love Spring and somehow Summer--but when I remember the difficulties of sleeping in the heat, hmm, I think I don’t like Summer so much. However, Autumn in Washington State is amazing. I grew up in Mexico City. There we don’t have the drastic changes of the seasons, and people cannot experience the beautiful tapestry of Fall colors. Here, it is a pleasure to walk around the monastery and appreciate the changes in the trees.

Fallen leaves & mushroom

These days I have noticed some leaves starting to change from green to yellow, pink, orange or dark red. I know that after a few glorious weeks of this lavish, colorful landscape the leaves will start falling. This will add a new pleasure to my regular walk since the dry leaves accompany me. The sound of crushing leaves is a peaceful rhythmic tune, as if the leaves talk to me.

Driving along College Street to Saint Martin’s University is a breath-taking, beautiful experience. I look forward to enjoying the view during the next few months. This Fall, besides all the beauty that nature gives us, I add the pleasure of starting a women’s Bible study at Saint Martin’s University. This is a project long planned together with Emily Alberts, and it took us quite some time to coordinate the best time, day and place for our meetings. Finally, the reward for our planning arrived yesterday--the first day we met, and I enjoyed every minute with wonderful women sharing our Catholic faith. It was an encounter with new and old (very young) friends. We did Lectio Divina and a little less orthodox reading of the Bible. I hope that Bianca, Delaney, Audrey, Anabelle, Carolyn and Emily all enjoyed the moment as I did. We are planning to meet once a week on Thursdays at the campus library. May God bless our time together! I invite you to come and join us. Please contact me for details at sisterbloggers@stplacid.org
